Blog audience, if you're still out there...I'm really sorry with my lack of blogging towards the end of my stay in Ethiopia. With the internet being super slow and having lots of work to do at school, I think it just fell to the side and I never picked it back up.
I'm now in my second year of medical school, and although Immunity & Infection has me exhausted, I'm loving the material we are covering. I feel like I'm actually learning things that can be applied in the clinical realm. Woot woot! I'm not sure if I will be continuing this blog, but I figured I'd fill you in on the other blog posts I had planned to make when I found the time. I stumbled upon a Word document on my hard drive, so here is a taste of what were supposed to be fantastic blog posts:
March 21, 2010
Happy New Year!
No, it didn’t suddenly jump to January 1st… The Baha’i calendar begins the evening of March 20th, the eve of Spring! The new year marks the end of the Fast and the beginning of – obviously – a new year.
This one would have been pretty fantastic because the Baha'i community in Addis has THE BIGGEST PARTY EVER! Complete with dancing, bon fire, beautiful readings and music, and of course - tons of yummy food.
Weekend with the Grants
I got to spend the whole weekend with my lovely family. Now that I'm back in the States, I miss them all SO MUCH!
Childrens Classes
Not sure what this was supposed to be about...perhaps a time when I assisted with Marilee's children's class? Whatever it was, it would have been awesome.
Happy Birthday To Me!
This was the day I turned 23. Woo hoo! Kyle bought me awesome headphones that arrived *spoiler alert* with my mother when she visited.
Wenchi Crater Lake
The day after my birthday. SO AWESOME. Kyle and I rode in the back of the Amare's van (couch cushions on the floor and sides, I told you it was awesome) for the medium-length drive on bumpy roads. There is a giant crater with a lake and communities inside it. So beautiful. We rode on horses down the trail and then took a boat to a monastery on a little island. We also had the privilege of spending this day with some dear Baha'i friends of the Amares' who were living in Dubai. They knew my cousin...small world!
It’s a Small World After All
-friends from Dubai know cousins
-everyone knows everyone!
Ah ha! Same friends from Dubai...know my cousins...told you so. It always makes me so happy when I see how incredibly small the world is. I know most people don't have this experience, but in the Baha'i community it is really easy to find someone who might know someone else that you know. Complicated...but I hope you get the idea.
Wrapping up the 3rd Quarter
Some sort of school-related post. I never thought I'd miss teaching, but I really do miss my students. By the time I go back to Ethiopia, they'll all be grown up! I'm hoping to do a fourth year rotation at the Black Lion Hospital. My med school has a program set up with their hospital, so I'm super excited about it!
Dubai Prep!
Headed to Dubai for my cousin's wedding. It was really great to see my family again! I was blessed to be able to see my whole family TWICE during my year of service - once in the U.S. and once in Dubai!
Hosting Feast
-since the baha’I calendar’s days actually begin at sunset, confusion on what day a month starts can be confusing!
This must have been about a time when we were hosting Feast but everyone showed up a day earlier than we thought it was...or something...I don't really remember... hehe
Dance Party with G-man
-One World Dance Youth Theater
Oh man, Galen taught me some dances from his youth workshop in B.C. It was a lot of fun. I miss that kid. Luckily, I got to see him at my *spoiler alert* wedding this past June! He was our awesome DJ and everyone commented on how great he was! When I first saw him (after not seeing him in over a year), I cried...yup...very emotional weekend...
I know this doesn't get you up to speed with my life adventures, but hopefully you've enjoyed the post. Maybe eventually I will write about the end of my stay in Ethiopia, my wedding, marriage, first year of med school, cooking, whatever comes to mind...but maybe I won't. I'm trying to come up with a blog for Kyle and I to use and share out fun life with friends and family...we'll see what happens!
Thank you for your love and support during one of the most challenging, but rewarding, years of my life. My love to you all!
