The White Brunette with Red Rainboots and Three Coats

Arriving in Addis on Monday at 3 in the morning, I don't know what will make me stand out the most: my race, my rainboots, or the fact that I will be wearing three coats (four if you count my sweatshirt).  It's really finally here!  Hopefully I will have time eventually to give the past few days justice, but I doubt it will happen.  So here is your brief synopsis:

Jasmin went to Cincinnati with her mommy to check out apartments on Thursday.  After apartment hunting, she got dinner with an old friend from high school, Christina, and it was great to catch up with her before Jasmin left.  She was so exhausted she went to bed around 10:30pm, which caused her to wake up around 7:30am even though her alarm was set for 9am.  She went to her interview at UC Med, which was an enjoyable experience, and then her and mommy came home for dinner and packing.  Kyle's stuff came in the mail while she was gone, which meant that approximately 10lbs of his stuff was added into the mix.  Jasmin didn't end up having any room for a nice non-stick pot which was slightly disappointing.  She then spent the rest of the evening sending emails, writing down last-minute details for Ethiopia, and playing Wii with her beautiful sister, Amber.

Now this chica is ready for bed.  However, as there has been a cholera outbreak in Addis, my first assignment is to make a plan to educate the children and staff at One Planet about cholera.  My first healthcare assignment - in Africa!!!  I'm just a little excited about it.  So now for downloading articles (since I'm not sure when I'll have internet next) and then sleeping, briefly, in my bed for the last time.  Good night, everyone, and please keep me in your prayers for the next 72 hours or so (or the next 10 months, that works too).  I have a 10 hour layover in Cairo and I'm slightly nervous. Plus the whole flying across the world by myself thing.  I'm ready for this adventure!

  3. I'm so excited for you! I had lots of my own adventures (alone, but always making new friends) in east Africa last year and I miss it a great deal.

So glad I stumbled on your blog, and maybe I'll check back and hear what Ethiopia is like!
