Lots of Lasts

As my time in the States is winding down, I have been having a lot of "last"s for 2009.  Last pumpkin pie.  Last trip to Case.  Last Dietsch's ice cream.  Last time watching Bride & Prejudice with my sisters.  Last time seeing lots of old friends.  And tonight was my last Feast.  Taken from the U.S. Baha'i calendar website:

Each Baha’i community holds a Nineteen Day Feast on the first day of each Baha’i month. The Feast has spiritual, administrative and social functions and is the primary locus of fellowship and community decision-making in each Baha'i locality. Because the Baha’i day lasts from sunset to sunset, the Nineteen Day Feast is generally held in the evening on the day before the first day of the Baha’i month according to the Gregorian calendar.

It was great to see the adults I've grown up with.  My sisters and I were always the only kids in our community, and now being "older" we seem to mesh more with the adults.  Instead of sitting on the floor, we get to sit on the couch or in a chair.  We are involved in the administrative portion and are able to voice our opinions.  This is probably also because we have matured and understand what is going on (and also pay attention).  Before the spiritual portion of Feast, I received a gift from Marie.  It was very unexpected, but also very much appreciated.  The envelope reads: "World-traveling-Jasmin-on-the-way-to-an-adventure!"  How exciting!  The inside of the card reads: "Vaya a Dios, dear Jasmin, travel well, with joy and God's love in your heart.  Paz, Marie".  It made me very happy.  The gift itself is a beautiful journal.  Not just any journal; it's a handmade coconut leaf journal made in Bangladesh.  Not only is it absolutely beautiful and perfect for my trip, but it is from Ten Thousand Villages.  Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade organization which "enables artisans to earn a fare wage and provides the opportunity for a better quality of life".  I really do love this journal and I will definitely be packing it in my suitcase!  Thanks, Marie!!!
